JAM PACKED REVIEW: THE WALKING DEAD: VOL. 1

This book reads like a movie, a zombie movie, a great zombie movie! From the very beginning you’re thrown into the world of the Walking Dead seen through the eyes of Rick Grimes. I think the introduction into the series is one of the most effective ways to thrust anyone into a story-ie wake from a coma with the world you knew oddly gone in no time and you have to put the pieces of the how and why together on your own. This allows the reader to see the story through the eyes of the protagonist. You can journey along with Rick as he searches for his wife and child in a true dog-eat-dog world. I know I should’ve said zombie-eat-zombie world but that was just way too cliche.
On top of the fact that everything and everyone you know and love is gone or zombified, you’ve got good ol’ fashioned drama by way of the survivors. Yep, even when things all go to hell people still find a way to make things even more complicated. This really does help keep you in the thick of the story. That’s the beauty of it all, you really do feel like you’re there.
Now I assume most people have read the story but for those that have not I feel I’ve done a pretty good job of not ruining anything. But I will say that after Rick finds what he’s been looking for things really start getting interesting. The eclectic group of survivors that he’s brought into have that “Lost” feel to them. There’s more than meets the eye here and I like it. Oh and one more thing, I was told by my boy Toney T that the ending was a shocker and boy was he right! So I really feel I did not spoil this read at all for you and I hope this review helps bring you into the world of The Walking Dead. Because now’s the best time to feast on all the zombie goodness with the show starting in October and all the hype surrounding it at this year’s Comic Con you can’t help but wanna “feed the need”. Had to get one more in there. You’re Welcome America!
